Wednesday / Darkness into Light
Read Psalm 18: 25-28 (NLT)
To the faithful you show yourself faithful; to those with integrity you show integrity.
To the pure you show yourself pure, but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd.
You rescue the humble, but you humiliate the proud. You light a lamp for me. The Lord, my God, lights up my darkness.
Think
When I suffered through the grief of losing my unborn son, God kept my light burning. I know I didn’t see it at the time, but God held me through my tears and transformed me through my sorrow. When I didn’t know what else to do, I clung to God, and eventually God was able to use my time of darkness for something good—God rebuilt me into a new person—and changed the darkness of grief I felt into the light of renewed faith.
God is all things to all people. When I am faithful, God shows true faithfulness. When I try to present myself to God as blameless, God shows me true blamelessness. When I weep, God weeps with me. God rejoices in my joy, grieves in my grief, and laughs with me in my happiness.
No matter what I go through, God understands. God is the one who refills my oil lamp when it starts to run low. God replenishes me when my spirit falters. In the darkest times God is with me and carries me back out into the light.
Pray
Oh Gracious and all-forgiving God, thank you for loving me back into the light. Thank you for taking the time to be with me in every moment. As I move and breathe, Lord, let me have my true being in you. Be all things to me in all places. Keep me safely walking in your light. Amen.
Do
Are you still carrying that little notebook from Ash Wednesday? If you are, good for you! If not, it’s time to get yourself a new one. As you carry it through the day, take notice of the times and places you see the Light in the world around you. Write it down, keep track of it. Then spend some time in prayer, thanking God for the Light. Ask God to help you shine the Light into the darkness of your everyday life. Go. Shine.
